2019 marks the centenary of Bauhaus; a rebellion against tradition that shaped design history like no other modern institution. Bestlite stems from the revolutionary changes that took place in the Bauhaus period between 1919 and 1933. The modernist movement founded by Walter Gropius, sought to break down the barriers between the practical crafts, industrialisation and fine art. Designs from that era brought functionality and simplicity to the forefront, displacing all superficial ornamentation.

Fable Oak collection was first introduced as six essential utilities: a spoon, a bowl, a stool, a chair, a table and a storage cabinet by one of Australia’s most successful and original commercial designers, Ross Didier.

These typical elements are also represented in traditional children’s tales and seem to conjure belief that a woodsman has simply stepped outside, chopped down a tree and hand-carved these functional objects – the simplicity
